Guidelines on How to kill fleas
Before knowing
how to kill fleas, we must know something
basic about them. First of all, fleas subsist
on pets like cats and dogs, and even on humans.
They may lay their eggs on the surroundings
of the host also like their bedding, clothes,
cars, beds, rugs, carpets, garden and lawn
or any other place that the host frequently
visits.
The normal hatching period of the flea eggs
is around 2 weeks, and then they transform
into larvae that are likely to rear under
the rugs, carpets and bedding for a period
of about 200 days, and ever more. If the conditions
are not favourable for their development,
the pupae of fleas can even stay undeveloped
on these locations for even more than a year
before turning into an adult blood sucking
flea. This means that a large number of undeveloped
fleas can get collected there which may lead
to mass infestation in the house.
Under such circumstances, one of the best
home remedies for fleas is to vacuum the house
regularly and thoroughly clean it. In order
to get rid of fleas, you will have to wash
all the fabrics in the house including curtains,
rugs and carpets that are very likely to frequently
come in contact with the infested persons
and animals. Even if after washing these fabrics,
you doubt the existence of fleas on them,
you can opt for steam cleaning them which
is a sure shot solution for killing these
fleas.
You can also use insecticidal shampoos to
wash these fabrics which are easily available
in the market. You can also take help of a
professional pest control specialist who will
treat the fabrics with infra red rays, which
is likely to kill fleas at every stage of
their life cycle. Dogs and cats that spend
so much time outside of the home are more
prone to be infested by fleas; therefore one
of the best home remedies for fleas is to
drench its resting areas with a lot of water
and soap, so that all the possible fleas are
drowned out of that area.
There are flea collars available that emit
poisonous vapours that are fatal for fleas,
but you need to regularly check the pet’s
skin beneath the collar to make sure that
the collar is not causing any type of irritation
or infection on the pet’s neck. It has
also been noted that citrus peel extracts,
sorptive dusts and rubbing alcohol on the
pet are also very effective method of killing
fleas.
