Fleas are carriers
of various diseases which can have severe
repercussions on your health as well your
pet’s health. Fleas are parasites and
live by sucking human and animal blood. Flea
bites are also very irritating and cause allergic
reactions to both humans and animals. It may
lead to anemia in dog due to excessive blood
loss. Preventive measures can curb the flea
infestation and also help you in getting rid

Flea infestation in your pets can be found,
if you see flea dirt on the skin coat of pets.
Use a brush and comb through the hair of your
pet on a white paper which will show you pepper
like seeds which is the excreta of the flea.
To fight flea infestation in your pet, many
anti-flea treatments are available in the
market like combs, sprays, oral medication
and shampoos. Flea combs and flea collars
are the most popular treatments for fleas.
But flea collars can cause little skin irritation
but is very effective. Bathing your pet with
flea shampoos can also help in killing the
fleas by drowning. You can also consult your
veterinarian for oral medication which can
treat flea in your pet. If you don’t
wish to bathe your pet very often then you
can spray the pet with IGR or Insect Growth
Regulators which are very safe for the pets.
Treatment for your house
Once your pet gets flea infested, then there
are chances that your house is also the home
to many fleas. Whole house should be cleaned
thoroughly by using vacuum cleaner for floors,
carpet and dark nook and corner. This needs
to be done because fleas breed in warm places.
Bedding and areas frequented by the pet should
be washed with water or sprayed with IGRs.
Flea bombs and flea foggers can also be used
if the infestation is in a huge area.
Treatment for your surrounding
Once house in done, you move to the surrounding
especially the gardens and yards which are
best places for fleas to breed. Many outdoor
flea treatments are available like Diatomaceous
Earth which kills the fleas by attacking their
outer shells can also be used. Nematode which
is freeze dried worms can be sprayed on the
yard as they kill fleas by eating them. The
bush and grass should be trimmed and kept
clean regularly. The only way of getting rid
of fleas is prevention and more prevention.
